Lecoq Workshops continued
|
Today in drama we were looking at more Lecoq movement ideas in different workshops. today our main focus was on expression and the emotion behind the movement and how different emotions affect the movement.
We started out with a walking exercise where we walked around the space neutrally then we walked around as ourselves in a neutral mood. We were then asked to adopt the characteristics of another persons walk in the space and adapt that into our own walk. This was really cool to see how a lot of us very quickly were all doing the same movement that we copied off one person as it was the most prominent movement. We then did an exercise which we saw done by Lecoq in his studio in the film we were watching - 'I take'. In the video he explored how different languages and cultures would speak the phrase and therefore assign an action to that particular way of saying it. We tried it with manny different phrases listed below. Group word actions - lecoq I take I turn I carry I rise I open Some of these movements were very literal and some of them were a different form of the same word and because we were in two groups - it was interesting to see if they had doe the same thing or something completely different. Movement matching the words of how the tone of how our culture would sound. Each different culture has a different way of saying it and therefore different tone and actions. 3 types of gesture - gesture of action - whole body - gesture of expression - emotional - gesture of demonstration - demonstrating Then we had the cup of tea exercise where we acted out with movement ONLY - preparing a cup of tea. We did it multiple times exploring a range of emotions and how that effected the movement and expression of our short piece. Cup of tea - perform neutral - then happy - then sad - then disgust Perform for Angharad - sadness - she was tired - really liked the eye rub/ tiredness Movement evokes emotion - Lecoq Sugar cube dissolving workshop - stirred with a spoon We also did an exercise where we lay on the floor and pretended to be a sugar cube dropped into tea and we had to 'dissolve'. Devising workshop The final thing that we did was a devised piece - i worked with Claire. We listened to a piece of music: Kronos quartet - 'Different trains III. We had to start in a small and confined space and through movement - no dialogue, break out of the space and explore ideas we had that were common with the music. Claire and i had many ideas and with only 10 or so minutes to devise a 3 minute piece we Just physicalised the ideas. I had the thought that we were two people trapped together and in escaping we had a new level of trust form and that was evident in the trust (leaning) exercise that i thought to put into the piece (1:28) in the video Just to the left <-- :) |
