Tuesday Double
Today we started the lesson off in an activity - creating a soundscape. We took an idea from a situation in a scene from 'Stolen' and worked it into an audio soundscape.
our idea was "Prison". in our sound scape we had to integrate 2 quotes in which, we used Jimmy's lines;
we tried to convey the pain and anguish that characters/ real people have gone through. the slap was to convey the repression of individuality and the loss of a sense of self and purpose. It was very confronting and upfront and quite disturbing to be a part of. the emotion was conveyed and the other group , to whom we performed, were quite shaken but the confronting nature of the soundscape. Ideas and issues explored in my soundscape:
Second group i wanna go home" you don't want to go to their home The soundscape was intense. it was confronting as the mood shift was sudden and unexpected. The children's voices had the biggest dynamic shift and the integration of the dialogue was well timed. The constant tapping of the wand and the the sudden drop conveyed the upright fear that had been sparked. This soundscape explored many ideas;
their use of random objects to create distinctive sounds was incredible! the outcome was very effective and quite emotionally raw. We then acted out the first scene (prologue) of stolen. i played sandy and we ran through all of the transformational acting, switching between the actor, the character as a child and finally the character as the adult. throughout the play the 5 actors continue switching between different versions of themselves and also other characters in the storey. it was very helpful to act it out rather then just read the play as it gave a much better understanding of the directorial concept that Jane Harrison had for this work. as we continues throughout the scene I could fell the characters growing and shifting. this play has been written very cleverly and i cannot wait to see the archival footage of it at the Belvoir St Theatre soon! |
