Todays lesson was spent silently working on reading through this booklet and and annotating it. To Summarise it, I would say that it focuses on explaining the context and background of the 'Bringing Them Home' Report published in 1997. This booklet explains the context to the Assimilation - also the progression of laws and events (in Chronological order) passed and altered in relation to the stolen generation and Indigenous Australians.
The lines that I have highlighted are the Laws or sentences i think are key to what has caused significant emotional damage for generations of people - Not only Indigenous Australians. to look back years later and see the devastation caused is horrific! Over 100,000 children were forcibly taken from their homes and lives and were taught to be "White". Assimilation is, in my opinion, the most repressive and outrageous piece of Australian history.
