Mixed Lesson
Today we started by having a discussion of the performance of 'Children of the Sun' that we saw at the Opera House on Tuesday night! we had to discuss it in relation to the concepts of drama (which were thankfully up on the wall) . i talked about how the use of space and movement was well directed and balanced and suited the dialogue and overarching themes. The transition music was perfectly suited to the mood of each scene and the revolving stage was used perfectly - not too much and not too little!
The fire ring in the last scene combined with the fading lights was one of the most powerful moments of theatre I have ever seen!!! it just lingered there as the professor lay down weeping and slowly everything just perfectly faded away. We then acted out more of stolen Pg. 3-8. the characters story were really starting to become apparent as the audience is given a feel for how the characters stories are intertwined throughout the play. i played Sandy and his back storey was thoroughly explained in the first few pages as he is "always on the run". Acting out the play is very useful because it adds a whole other dimension to just reading it. Emotion and tone is explored through the use of space and movement as the stories unfold. its difficult to out of nowhere just jump into a role and act out a lifetime of emotion. I hope that we continue to do so. |
